I have worked with digital data ever since graduating from Penn State Altoona with dual associate degrees in engineering technology (1 in electrical, the other in mechanical). I accepted a position with North American Communications in Duncansville PA as a Data Processor. NAC was a direct mail factory. For those new to the term "direct mail", it is more commonly known as "junk mail". My link in the chain was to process our customer mailing lists through various programs to standardize data fields to meet US postal regulations and customer requirements. I regularly processed a once-a-month job that contained over 10 million address! To process all of those records, I taught myself the PowerShell programming language both to speed up the processing steps and to increase the accuracy of the process.
After NAC unexpectedly closed its doors in May of 2019, I was scooped by another direct mail house, ResourceOne to work in their Baltimore MD division, Barton Carton Graphics. While working for BCG, I took it upon myself to convert some of their old *.bat process scripts into more modern PowerShell library modules. Since I was working remotely from home, I took the opportunity to return to Penn State Altoona to earn my Bachelor's of Science in mathematics in May of 2021.
In September of 2020, I came on board at Unkel Joe's Woodshed in Altoona PA as their Data Manager and Lead Software Engineer. My main responsibility with Unkel Joe's was to oversee the implementation of scannable inventory; for their over 50 years of existence, they had been keying in prices at the register. I also entered several years of paper sales records into digital spreadsheets in order to run a historical trend analysis on this data.
In March of 2022, I was hired by McLanahan Corporation in Hollidaysburg PA as a Business Application Developer. During my time with McLanahan, I used the Microsoft Power Platform to set up custom Power Apps and wrote native PowerShell library modules to handle various ETL processes. My largest Power App build was to convert an outdated Excel-based System Improvement Registrar into a full-stack responsive Power App for our Australia division. My biggest PowerShell library module was a BOM conversion process that would take exported WindChill *.csv files and output various reports and parts files then upload to our ERP.
In January of 2024, I co-founded the company Valhalla Cards and Gaming to work primarily as their Chief Technology Officer. I wrote various PowerShell scripts to aid day-to-day operations (e.g. a script to automate the label printing process for outgoing orders).
